What is ILB?
ILB is an alternative solution to traditional structural steel options.
ILB's design provides the strength for larger spans whilst reducing the weight of the steel required. This is due to the combination of either standard SHS or RHS sections (chords or the top and bottom plates) with a pressed waffle shaped plate web that is continuously welded to the hollow sections.
The ILB’s can be manufactured in a variety of configurations depending on the engineering design parameters, with engineered design tables developed through independent testing and verification.
The ILB design dramatically reduces weight yet increases strength in lateral twisting and torsional bending.
When used as an alternative to traditional steel members in a prefabricated framing system, an ILB Steel Solution provides for greater spans and lighter structures.

What is an ILB building system?
ILB Building Systems are typically ‘large span high volume buildings’ based on a conventionally engineered portal framed structure. The system is not economical for small spans or buildings with critical height issues due to the increased depth in the sections.
ILB sections can be used as beams or as column members or in combination with conventional steel sections (i.e. ILB beams combined with UC’s). Conventional sections are still typically used for bracing or secondary elements.
As per conventional steel framed structures, there are a number of general fitting plates and connections that are welded to the frame and then bolted together.
